what an awesome Christmas! I sang back up vocal for my mom for Silent Night... it was so fun, and interesting to have her as part of the process, where she could see what i was doing, and how it works and what i do when i'm "recording"... she sang the melody through the whole song... and i just kinda fluffed around her... it's so fun! i video'd my dad rehearsing too, but mom said i couldn't post the video so anyhow, here's the recording of me and MaMa Chu singing Silent Night! i can't help it, i have to put it up, my dad is too cute! mom said i couldn't post on youtube, but this is not so public since you can't search it! so here it is (btw, that's my mom trying to feed my dad mango pudding as he's singing!): MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE CHU FAMILY!!!

So i heard this song on KBLX on thursday, and was like, "ooohhhh!" and in the age of the internet and youtube i did a bunch of research and listened to the song over and over and over again, versions by BBKing, Ray Charles, and Christina Aguilera. Then i looked up any karaoke versions... and there was a generic one, that didn't have the hot "santa came down the chimney" bridge, and Christina's version that had, like, everything... but since i didn't have that much time to learn it exactly like Christina, and cuz her runs are ridiculous, i decided to figure out my own way of doing it, and only after three takes, this is what i got... so... MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY!!! I hope you enjoy it! Technical stuff - i can't find the compressor thingy on GarageBand... can anyone help me out? the end part, i kinda had the mic sensitivity too high for my voice... anyone know a way to fix that??
My mom said i should do "Hit the Road Jack", so I did... the instrumentals were easy and repetitive enough that i decided that i would do those too... so yeah, i copy and pasted, but if i "b-dum dumm'd" one too many times, i wouldn't have the voice to sing the parts anymore! hahah - you can also see where i punched in for a couple of extra "yeah's"... i think i have to fix the mix a little more... it sounds different if i have my earbuds on, vs, the computer speakers, vs headphone... what a headache... i dunno how to do this stuff! .... update... ok, this sounds a bit better... to me anyway... here it is:
i've been really hormonal lately, and just trying to get through some petty stuff, but when you're hormonal, everything is a frikin' crisis. so a couple weeks ago, i ran across this song, which is really dumb, cuz i've heard it before... yes, yes... even before Glee - i had a friend that was in a production of Cabaret down in LA - but that was YEARS ago... anyhow, i saw the version that Liza did on YouTube... (which also reminded me that Liza is Judy Garland's daughter) anyway... her range was right in mine, and there was so much drama in the song, so i've been listening to it and trying to learn it, cuz it's a good song to sing, and i'm building up my audition repertoire for when i get to New York anyway, hehe... so today, as i was talking to Heather about my petty crisises, i had a *bing!* moment, and thought, i'm gonna record it - so here it is... for some reason, every time i want to record, my sinuses get all plugged up... there are some parts on it, that i wanted to re-record cuz i didn't really like it, but it's getting late... didn't want to bother my neighbors... "it's 10pm! who the F*** is belting out broadway tunes???!" (if i was in NY, that might not be such a weird thing) anyway... i hope you enjoy this latest track from Just4Fun Records... ;p MAYBE THIS TIME 'Eh-Yup Me Duhk! :D
